The deposits suitable for mining are at or above a depth of 263 ft. (80 m) on a flat limestone rock. The process of turning oil sand into crude oil begins with mining the resource. Surface mining is the most viable method of recovery when the oil sand is not deeply buried. We offer the technical know-how of bitumen extraction through mining, tailings treatment, in-situ produced fluids treatment, and upgrading through process development and evaluation. We provide assessment of treatment trains by the optimization of the surface separation process through the evaluation of:
Geotechnical Evaluation
Froth treatment
Bitumen blending and rheology
Degassing
Diluent management and mixing performance
Rag layer remediation
Technical validation of chemical additives
Bitumen extraction on a commercial scale from the Athabasca Oil Sands by surface mining
In-Situ Recovery
SAGD – Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage
CSS – Cyclic Steam Stimulation
Bitumen at depth 200 m and deeper could be developed with techniques such as cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) or steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) which requires production and injection of dry hot steam into the reservoir to decrease the viscosity of the bitumen. The reduction of the bitumen viscosity enables higher viscous bitumen to flow through a mono-bore (CSS) or producer (in case of SAGD) wellbore.
OGAB Engineering provides leading edge technologies and solutions that enable hydrocarbon exploration and production companies to create value and optimize cost by reducing hydrocarbon exploration risks, improving oil well placements and improving understanding of producing reservoirs.
